Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008 - Batman Gotham Knight Asian Preview

I was there on the 2nd day of the convention where they screened Batman Gotham Knight. Though I did not win any tickets, and did not had a chance to sit through the entire screening (of all the 6 shorts by the way), I managed to catch some bits and pieces.

The first chapter "Have I Got a Story For You" itself below my mind away. It was animated by Studio 4ÂșC. You can tell straight away from the distinct style of animation. The animation alone sold me to get the DVD when it is released.

The other 2 Japanese studios are Production I.G. and Madhouse, both renowned for their superb animation.

The plots are darker, and so is the mood of the animation. The characters are animated in the usual Japanese styles, so they do not look like any of the Western counterparts. This is quite refreshing.

Go get the DVD when it is released !

In case you could not see the preview, here is a sneak peak clip from youtube.

Singapore Toy and Comics Convention 2008 - Thoughts

In general, the convention was a minor disappointment to me. There were few new items that was displayed. Basically, it did not live up to the hype or expectations.

For example, the Medicom booth only showcased Son GoKu and a few other soon to be released 1/6th RAH, a few bearbricks and some fuzzy cat. The display was quite pathetic though. But a close up look of Son GoKu made me want to get him more, though the material for the clothing was not up to standard.

The Bandai also showed old stuff, and limited only to Saint Seiya, Gundam kits, SOC, SIC and surprisingly Ben10.

Hasbro only concentrated on Wizards and Clone Wars, and the Star Wars display was decent only.

The Clone Wars figures are great looking !

Guess the number of clones !

Stikfas customs.

I did not take any more pictures as there was nothing much worth capturing.

But it was a good attempt to organize such a major event, and get so many participants, local and overseas. It is a good step in the right direction, and hopefully we will have another one next year.

Do show your support by attending the convention !

Depending on time, I may go down again to see if I am able to pickup one of the exclusive bearbricks.

Singapore Toy and Comics Convention 2008 - Artist Graffiti Wall

Missed most of the other artists because we arrived around 530pm for registration. Only managed to catch Kika and NadaOne of MADCAP in action.

Singapore Toy and Comics Convention 2008 - Start !

Headed for the convention with shaun, Roy and Amy.

Photo Review: Transformers Animated Grimlock

Upcoming Yamato Macross 1/60 Destroid Tomahawk - Update

Found more pictures, some from toy shows. Cool !

Toy shows

Upcoming Yamato Macross 1/60 Destroid Tomahawk

I usually do not post future releases, but the recent news just got me excited.
I am not a Macross fan, although I liked the original anime/movie (Do you remember Love is still one of the best sequence in my opinion) and Macross Zero, and watched some of the other anime like Macross Plus and Frontier.

The thing I liked about Macross are the other mechas (the Valkyries are overrated) like Tomahawk, Monster, Regult, etc. Yamato has been making Valkyries all these while, and the only non-Valkyries mecha they released was the Koenig Monster awhile back. Now they are back agin, to release the Destroid Tomahawk.

So far, these are the promotional pictures we have seen, and no other pictures from the recent toy shows in Japan. But it is looking great !

I remember as a kid, I was so taken in by this mecha design that I bought and built the model kit. I should still have the kit somewhere in the storeroom, or at least the box. It'lls be great now to own an action figure.

Haul of the Day

Transformers Movie

Managed to get Offroad Ironhide at clearance price of S$27.90 at Carrefour, but missed out on Premium Blackout and Ironhide. I knew I should have gone to Carrefour during lunchtime on Friday.

Transformers Animated

Got them from TFH. Could not wait for retail. Voyager box condition was bad though. Got a loose Grimlock as well.
